If a thing is to have a market value, it must be detachable and alienable so that it can be put on the scale and compared

Woah! What is this? Essentially it is amazing, categorised somewhere between dub, ska and a spaghetti western. It reminds me a lot of an amazing Master Musicians of Bukkake 7” (£7.39 at Norman) but has a more dubby edge, thanks to the wonderful Prince Fatty, also known as Brighton-based record producer Mike Pelanconi who has worked on projects “from Acid Jazz to Lilly Allen via The Pharcyde and Graham Coxon”.

The Mutant Hifi mentioned in the artist name is Nick Coplowe, also a record producer known for his work for the On-U Sound label.

Transistor Cowboy appeared on the Return of the Gringo LP, available from Mr Bongo for just £10.99, you can also pick up the track on 7” from Mr Bongo for £4.99

The Mr Bongo label also appears on Soundcloud you can check out much of their back catalogue on Spotify.
Worth noting (for a blatant plug) that this track is my current jam on thisismyjam.com

WELCOME TO MONDAY! There’s little to get excited about, so check this slab of pure ska gold. The opening track from Dreadsquad’s new record The Riddim Machine, which is released today through Superfly Studio, is enough to make you shake off the filth from a weekend’s procrastinating and dance through to doing something better next weekend.

Of course there’s a week’s worth of digidub coming to help you along the way. This is the blog’s fourth week, and you can now grab a track at random by clicking HERE. Exciting tech eh?

As I say, The Riddim Machine is out now and is fantastic. You can listen to it all for free on Soundcloud. It’s meant to be out on vinyl too, but I can’t find it - if you find it for sale somewhere, please let me know…

I didn’t say anything about Dr Ring Ding, who is from Hamburg, Germany, and looks a bit like a guy who was once in Brookside.

One of my favourite tracks ever, Solo Banton is arguably the best vocalist in the UK. I waxed lyrical about him earlier on the blog, but No is a track that shows him at the top of his game.

Again with a riddim by the ever-brilliant Maffi and released through Jahtari, No sets along a common theme in Solo’s lyrics - an ideology of ‘smoke weed, don’t take coke’. It’s fine advice, and along with ‘just say no to drugs (i.e. coke)’, the track also has Solo telling you to say No to raping women, molesting children and shooting people. Seriously, this guy should be President of the World.

What I’m doing

This blog continues to garner followers, even though I am 20 days short of not having put something on here for an entire year. The posts aren’t going to start flowing now, but here is an update to what’s going on in my life.

Work: I work at The Guardian, which is a dream come true. I have an incredible amount of insight on how people use an editorial website, and try to make that experience better, hopefully helping us keep The Guardian running for many years to come.

Music: I DJ semi-regularly. I am obsessed with Digidub and blog a track daily. I sometimes do a show on Dandelion Radio, but was robbed last year and now don’t have the means to pull a show together. Hopefully this will change soon.

Elsewhere: I’m a married man, which I wasn’t when I last posted. I’ve also been to Asia, which I hadn’t when I last posted. I’m still massively in debt to the bank thanks to Bearded, which I was when I last posted.

Stay in touch, I’m still on Twitter, and like a chatter. @GarethMain

Soft Healer - Movie Light (Captured Tracks)
